BOTOX® has long been used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, but BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to treat more than smoker’s lines and crow’s feet. This injectable is now being used to prevent migraines, stop excessive sweating and reduce gummy smiles.

1. Chronic Migraines

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of BOTOX® to treat migraines. Those who suffer from chronic migraines have more than 15 migraines per month. BOTOX® can alleviate the pain and symptoms associated with this form of head pain by injecting BOTOX® into several areas around your face and head. Insurance companies often cover BOTOX® for migraines due to its medical nature.

3. Excessive Sweating

BOTOX® is also FDA-approved to treat axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Some health insurance providers even cover BOTOX® treatment for this condition. This treatment works by preventing the chemical release associated with sweat from being stimulated in specific sweat glands. Common treatment areas include the underarms, hands and feet. The effects of BOTOX® used for hyperhidrosis can last up to seven months.

3. Gummy Smiles

BOTOX® works by freezing the muscles that lead to deep lines and wrinkles, but can also work to limit the movement of the upper lip for those who feel their smile reveals too much of their gums. Our cosmetic surgeon can treat your gummy smile by injecting BOTOX® into the area above your upper lip to prevent the muscles from elevating when you smile. This treatment lasts up to six months and takes mere minutes to complete. The FDA has not approved the use of BOTOX® for gummy smiles yet.
