BOTOX® Cosmetic is widely known for its ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the face. This is done by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles, which prevents movement and repeated expressions that lead to signs of aging. BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes and softens muscles, and it’s these abilities that make treating health issues possible.

BOTOX® can do more than treat forehead lines, “crow’s feet” and frown lines. This injectable can also address:

1. Lazy Eyes & Twitching Eyelids

Strabismus, also known as a lazy eye, typically causes embarrassment but also blurred vision, dizziness and disorientation. A lazy eye happens when your brain favors one of your eyes over the other. BOTOX® treats strabismus by relaxing the muscles in the dominant eye, giving the weaker eye the ability to recover. Blepharospasm, or eyelid twitching, is also treatable with BOTOX®.

It’s important that you choose a board-certified ophthalmologist with skill and experience treating eye issues with BOTOX® such as our Dr. Pakeman in NYC. BOTOX® treatments for lazy eyes and twitching eyelids are both FDA-approved.

2. Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Severe, excessive sweating affects many men and women. This can cause significant embarrassment and may prevent you from wearing clothing you like or doing activities that may make your sweating more visible. When topical medicines fail to reduce sweating, BOTOX® can be injected into the underarm area to block acetylcholine, which is the chemical that activates the sweat glands.

The use of BOTOX® for underarm hyperhidrosis is FDA-approved, but it is unknown if it’s safe to use in other areas where severe sweating may occur.

3. Chronic Migraines & Cluster Headaches

Statistically, nearly everyone will experience at least one severe headache in their life, but there are millions of men and women who struggle with chronic migraines (more than 15 per month). BOTOX® is often injected into the forehead, neck and shoulders to prevent migraines for an extended period of time. Additionally, cluster headaches, which are commonly referred to as “suicide headaches,” can sometimes be treated with BOTOX® injections to aid in breaking an episodic cycle or allow chronic patients a period of relief.

BOTOX® is FDA-approved for this use and works by releasing muscle tension and pressure on the nervous system.

Your health insurance provider may even cover the cost of your BOTOX® treatment for the health conditions listed above.
